Launch of V36.1 – Updated criteria for open sustainability data
We are happy to announce that the new generation of our criteria, V36.1, is now here! This is the biggest changes since the BASTA system was created. This update brings several important changes and improvements that will help our connected companies to be able to share and retrieve more sustainability data in a more flexible way.
What's new in V36.1?

Modularization of the BASTA system: It will now be possible to register and publish a product as long as at least one of the following criteria areas is met: Health and environmental hazard, Circularity, Renewability, Environmental effects - EPD and/or Emissions and tests.
This is the biggest update to the BASTA system since we were founded and will provide increased flexibility for all connected companies that want to share their information digitally and openly!

New criteria areas: Article identifier (required) and Article information (optional) have been added to clarify the criteria and information about products.

Changes in Health and Environmental Hazards: The grade BASTA has been renamed ALPHA. When registering, the proportion of primary and circulated raw material must be stated. The methodology for assessing the circulated raw material has been clarified, and the definition of electronics now follows the RoHS Directive's definition.

Updates within Environmental effects - EPD: Major updates have been made to facilitate the use of climate data for calculations.

When will the new criteria come into force?
The updated criteria will enter into force on 15 January 2026. At this point, all products must be assessed against the new criteria and registrations must be updated.
During the autumn, we will open up for updating registered information so that you can take advantage of the new features as soon as possible!
New criteria document and supporting documents
A new criteria document, V36.1, has been published in connection with this notification. Updated supporting documents have been published. We will inform all connected companies when it is possible to start updating registered information.
