How Welin & Co Work with BASTA

Tell us about yourself and your role at Welin & Co

My name is Johanna, and since 2025 I have been working as the Environmental and Sustainability Manager at Welin & Co, a distributor of leading wood coating products.

I am responsible for regulatory compliance in Sweden and Denmark, and I support Finland in chemical reporting and EU legislation. This includes driving sustainability requirements towards suppliers, including best practices and upcoming regulations (e.g., VOC).

My role also involves registering products in environmental databases such as BASTA, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, and BVB. Looking ahead, the focus is on EPD publication for the Danish market in preparation for upcoming Swedish building requirements in 2028.

In addition, I review chemicals, ensure certifications are in place, and am responsible for training in areas such as diisocyanates and biocides. I also lead internal environmental work (ISO 14001), training initiatives, audits, and monitor sustainability developments within the industry.

How does Welin & Co work with BASTA?

I register our products and ensure they are updated according to the latest criteria. This also applies to suppliers who register their products independently. I also train our customers and sales team on how to access and interpret the information available in BASTA.

By following developments within BASTA, I am able to raise relevant questions with our suppliers. In some cases, this serves as a basis for clarifying requirements and expectations, such as emission measurements.
