Interview with Jenny Adnerfall

Floor to ceiling with BASTA

Published 13 May 2025

Since the beginning of the year, there are new requirements for suppliers within the Authorized Flooring Company, the flooring industry's own quality system and stamp. In the areas of "Identification of hazardous substances, chemical requirements and traceability", BASTA is recommended as a system. We asked two questions to Jenny Adnerfall, Technology and Sustainability Manager at Golvbranschen.

How does the flooring industry work on phasing out substances with hazardous properties?

The flooring industry's material suppliers are guided by the REACH legislation and take into account the entire life cycle of the product, from raw material to recycling. One of the flooring industry's stated goals is to work towards increased circularity, and phasing out hazardous substances is a prerequisite for this transition. Several products in the flooring industry contain recycled raw materials, in some cases from demolished floors. This is done to ensure that no old, unwanted substances are recycled.

Why do you mention BASTA as an example for REACH compliance?

A product search in BASTA is openly available and free of charge to all users who want to make informed product choices. The system clearly shows which construction products meet both legal requirements/REACH and also various market requirements linked to certification schemes for buildings. We feel that BASTA has scientifically based criteria and well-developed control activities, so that you can rely on the accuracy of the information on registered products.
