More and more companies are choosing BASTA's API for sustainability data

Interest in integrating sustainability data directly into digital tools and systems continues to grow. Today, BASTA's API is used by an increasing number of companies to access quality-assured information on products, climate impact, and compliance requirements. Charlotte Stjernqvist, Technical Expert and Product Owner at BASTA, shares her insights on this development and explains how the API is being used in practice

BASTA's API is becoming increasingly popular. What would you say is the reason why so many organizations want to retrieve data from BASTA?

I believe there are several factors contributing to this trend. On the one hand, the construction industry is becoming more digitally mature and better equipped to make use of APIs. On the other hand, more organizations have come to recognize BASTA as a reliable source of structured, quality-assured, and openly available sustainability data.

What can the API be used for?

There are many different ways to use the data available through the API. Some manufacturers publish their products directly in BASTA, where the system automatically checks the registered information against the requirements of external stakeholders and certification schemes. Information about how products meet these requirements can then be retrieved and displayed on the manufacturer's own digital platform.

Many calculation tools are primarily interested in the climate data derived from Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), particularly because the data in BASTA is both digitized and converted into environmental impact per kilogram of product. It is also common to retrieve information about different requirement frameworks so that products meeting specific procurement criteria or other requirements can be identified directly within purchasing systems.
