Article registration in the BASTA-system

Register your articles in the BASTA system and expose your articles online in a system that is open for anyone to search in. The BASTA system makes it easier for anyone who wants to make conscious material choices. Show that you as a company work actively with health and environmental issues and contribute to a reduction of particularly hazardous substances in our society.

What products can be registered in BASTA?

The BASTA systems database contains chemical articles, materials and goods used in building- and construction.

Get started

1. Register an account

To get started with the registration of your articles in the Basta system, you need to register a user account on BASTAOnline.

Register an account

2. Registering a company

Once logged in, you can register the company you represent. Then a cooperation agreement with BASTAonline needs to be signed. Be sure to take note of the terms of the cooperation agreement as well as the BASTA systems Properties criterias.

3. Publish articles

You can publish your articles when the company account is activated and invite others in your organization who will be able to manage your article register. The data you have registered will not be made public until you register the first article in the system.

When registering a company, state:

  • If you are a manufacturer, importer, retailer or name changer.
  • The contact information (name, e-mail, and telephone number) for your company’s contact persons. One of the contact persons need to be registered as the main contact/administrator. That is the person that BASTAonline AB will contact at e.g. audits.
  • That your company has the expertise and documentation specified in the agreement to be able to register articles in the system. The expertise/competence can be internal or external.

After the registration of the company

The following documents must be e-mailed to paulina.rodekemlo@ivl.se or sent to BASTAonline AB, Box 210 60, 100 31 Stockholm.

  • Cooperation agreement and appendix signed by a authorised signatory.
  • Excerpt from the Swedish Companies Registration Office’s register that confirms a authorised signatory.

The BASTA office will activate your company account within a week and send you an invoice for the annual fee. Once your company account has been activated, you can start registering articles that meet the BASTA system’s criteria.

It can be time-consuming to find out the full chemical composition of a product.

It is always preferable and optimum to have the complete content information, but that is sometimes difficult, due to reasons such as confidentiality or corporate secrets. In order to facilitate the work as well as to enable the registration the BASTA-system has one tools:

sub supplier declaration – attests that the product or the material meets the BASTA-or BETA-criteria. This is sent to the sub-supplier together with the BASTA Properties Criteria.
The BASTA-system follows the methodology in Article 33 regarding complex/composite products. This means that each individual component of a complex/composite product must be assessed and qualified separately.

Important to know

Your company registers the articles that meet the system’s property criteria.

In order to qualify your products, the following is required:

  • Declaration of content – you need detailed knowledge of the product’s total chemical composition
  • Assessment document – you must show that the product meets the property criteria
  • Competence requirements – you must have knowledge of health and environmental assessments (internal or external)
  • Audits – you agree that we regularly audit your work within the framework of your BASTA commitment

See prices/annual fee…

Before you register your company, it is a good idea to read through the cooperation agreement and the Properties criteria used within BASTA.

  • Cooperation agreement (2022:A1)
  • Cooperation-agreement-appendix
  • BASTA Properties criteria (2022:A1)
  • Beta Properties criteria (2022:A1)
  • Declared Properties criteria (2022:A1)

A supplier’s guide can be found on the document page and you can download it for further information about registration of companies and articles. If you want to know more and get further in-depth information about Basta, you can visit the sections Criteria and Documents.

Contact information in the BASTA-system?

No content information is registered in the BASTA system, with the exception of a limited number of substances that are covered by the system’s information requirements. These are instead presented at a BASTA audit where routines, competence, content information and assessment data are reviewed. To increase the benefit for those who search the database, we recommend that you register the building product declarations, safety data sheets or other relevant official information in connection with the registration of an article.

Import via Excel

We supply an Excel Import file that can be used (on the documents page), to more efficiently, register a large number of articles in the database. Members of FINFO can get help to get the Excel template file filled with article data by contacting info@finfo.se

Who sees the registered products?

BASTA’s search function is public and no login is required to search for registered articles. Our website is bilingual (Swedish/English) and we have many users from countries outside Sweden.

Our logbook tool is used by contractors, municipalities and real estate companies to, among other things, certify buildings in, for example, Miljöbyggnad or to gain better control of what is built into properties and facilities.

We also share information about registered articles digitally. Users of that service are, for example, contractors, hardware stores or other related databases.

Customer support

A supplier guide is available on the document page and you can download it for further information on the registration of companies and articles.
