The system is based on a consistent scientific methodology, where knowledge of the industry’s needs and a high level of expertise in the environmental field guides the development.
- The BASTA systems Properties Criteria is based on European chemicals legislation REACH and CLP, which ensures that a comparable and relevant requirement level is met.
- The Properties criteria in the BASTA system includes both chemical products and articles, and limits substances with phasing-out and risk-reduction properties.
- Long-term sustainable development of materials and articles without unwanted substance content and substances of very high concern is made possible by the criteria taking precedence over current legislation, but not against it.
- The system’s clear and public criteria are developed in collaboration with a scientific council, and changes in said criteria are announced and explained at an early stage.
- Material Suppliers retain ownership and control of their own product data in the system thus ensuring that a current and up-to date information is available.
