Essentially, BASTA provides two pieces of information about a product:

• The supplier knows which substances the product contains.
• Furthermore, the supplier has given a guarantee that the product does not contain substances with any of the hazardous properties described in the BASTA criteria document.

If the product that you seek is not included in the database then this can be interpreted as a warning signal. The product may contain a hazardous substance, in which case it may suitable to search the database to find a substitute product. It may also be the case that the supplier does not actually know what the product contains.
