The BASTA system
The objective of BASTA is to speed up the phasing out of dangerous substances in construction products. BASTA´s "properties criteria" are at the heart of the system. These criteria build on the EU chemical legislation, REACH, which focuses on the phasing out of the most hazardous substances.  By asking your suppliers to confirm that their products meet the BASTA criteria you can avoid using hazardous substances in your building projects. Read more about how to Build with BASTA!

In the BASTA system, it is the suppliers themselves that determine whether their products meet the criteria. We therefore place a number of formal quality requirements on all suppliers who join BASTA. Please feel welcome to sign our supplier agreement!external link

The database contains only those products that meet the properties criteria. You can search by product or supplier name, or use the advanced search. The database is freely available for everyone to use; the database can be accessed without a password or membership.  Search the database using the search window on the right (only available in Swedish).

Properties criteria according to CLP
The properties criteria in the BASTA system are now translated to the European Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).

The BASTA and the BETA properties criteria are now available in two alternative sets - option 1 and option 2. Material Suppliers are free to choose which of the options to be used, but the supplier must then implement the choice consistently for all products in the system. Option 1 of the criteria are the existing criteria developed under Swedish classification rules (KIFS 2005:7) and can be used until 1 June 2015 during the transition to the European Regulation (CLP) in Sweden. Option 2 of the criteria are developed according to European Regulation (CLP). Note that since option 1 is the same as the existing criteria (for both BASTA and BETA), no extra work for you as a supplier is required since no changes in existing criteria have been taken place.

Adaptation of BASTA criteria - 2012
Adapting to change in the Swedish regulation Swedish regulation KIFS 2005:7, changes have once again been introduced to the criteria for environmental hazard 18a and 18b. Concentration limits  previously based on the substances LC50 values was changed in the beginning of 2011. Due to another recent change in the same Swedish regulation, the original references to the tables 13a and 14 in Swedish regulation KIFS 2005:7 has now been reintroduced in the BASTA properties criteria.

As a result of this change, the concentration limits  of properties criteria 18a and 18b in the BASTA system are once again based on the substances L(E)C50 values as in the original wording of the criteria.

Product Qualification - New document to help the supplier
To clarify the suppliers' efforts to qualify their products for registration in the BASTA- and BETA- registers, a new document has been developed. The document contains both a workflow of how the qualification of products should be implemented step by step, and two tables that clarify how the qualification can be documented.
